'The Ark'
Working Together in Mission, Ministry and Discipleship
'The Ark' is the name given to the link between St Laurence Church, Long Eaton and Holy Trinity Church, Ilkeston.
Throughout the Diocese of Derby, groups of churches are joining together in order to work more closely alongside one another and to share one anothers resources to proclaim the gospel.
As part of that initiative, the Anglo-Catholic churches of St Laurence Long Eaton and Holy Trinity Ilkeston have joined together.
The 16th September 2006 began a significant chapter in the life of these two historic parishes. A special inauguration day was held in order to mark the formalisation of their link. The day took the shape of a pilgrimage from Holy Trinity to St Laurence. But this wasn't to be just any old journey. It was to be a journey made by boat along the Erewash Canal, with a number also making the trip on foot. The day was a wonderful and joyous occasion, and was accompanied by various activities along the way including worship with both the Bishop of Derby, and the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.
