The Sacraments

Baptism

Holy Baptism, sometimes referred to as Christening is the rite of entry into God’s family- the Church. Baptism is a sacrament which can only be administered once and is open to all irrelevant of age. At St Laurence’s we currently offer baptisms during the Mass on the first Sunday of the month outside of Lent.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an excellent opportunity to recommit ourselves to the vows made in our baptism once we have reached spiritual maturity. Confirmation can only be administered by a bishop so usually takes place once a year in our parishes. Speak to Fr Max for more information.

Communion

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life, in it we are fed with the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Mass is celebrated almost daily across our two parishes, more information can be found here. Fr Max is always happy to prepare candidates to receive communion for the first time.

Confession

1 John 1:9 tells us "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" and James 5:16 "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed". Confession or the Rite of Reconciliation is an opportunity to get back on track with God. Confession is available before the regular Wednesday Mass or by request by contacting Fr Max.

Anointing of the Sick

God loves us and cares for us when we are suffering. the Anointing of the Sick is comprised of prayers for those who are suffering, anointing with holy oil and the laying on of hands, it is especially appropriate as one approaches the end of their life but is available to all who seek healing and wholeness. Fr Max is happy to administer the sacraments in church or can visit at home, hospital or care home.

Holy Matrimony

“What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Getting married at St Laurence’s allows you to be joined together in the presence of God and his people. Father Max is happy to meet with couples considering getting married at St Laurence’s.

Holy Orders

Holy Orders or Ordination is the sacrament which confers indelible spiritual character resulting in an ontological change in a persons being, enabling them to minister as a priest or deacon in God’s Holy and Apostolic Church. If you believe God may be calling you into his service as a deacon or priest we would love to hear from you.
